Advisory Board

Organisation Description:

Otago University Students’ Association (OUSA) is a not-for-profit organisation that has been proudly serving the students of the University of Otago for over 135 years. We are a passionate group of people providing representation and services to the students while ensuring they have the best experience possible while studying here.

Our mission statement is that OUSA delivers student-led advocacy, targeted student support, harm reduction, events, recreation, media and facilities to students.

OUSA provides a broad range of services to the students at the University of Otago. With an annual turnover of $7.5 million, OUSA is a substantial organisation, operating as an incorporated society and registered charity.

Student Executive:

The Student Executive is OUSA’s governance group that consists of 12 students who are annually elected by the student body. The Executive is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the Association, while serving as the representative voice of University of Otago students. The Executive comprises twelve elected representatives, each holding a unique portfolio that reflects a key area of student life, student communities and engagement.

The Executive employ a CEO who is responsible for running overall operations and management of OUSA; including staff management, financial management, human resources, commercial activities and service delivery.

Advisory Board:

The Advisory Board provides advice and support to the Student Executive, CEO, and the wider Association. As the Student Executive are the legal governors of OUSA, the Advisory board will only make recommendations to the Student Executive and CEO. The Advisory Board supports decision-making by offering professional expertise, sector knowledge, and an external perspective.

Due to the end of the current advisory board, OUSA are looking to appoint two advisory board members, one of which will be expected to take the Chair role in the future.
