UniQ

UniQ Otago is an OUSA affiliated queer* student social club for tertiary students in Otago, this includes students studying at Otago Polytechnic as well as Otago University.

UniQ Otago is based around an elected Executive Committee, members and those who attend our events! UniQ provides safe, queer friendly spaces and regular social events in Dunedin, and we work closely with OUSA Queer Support to provide support and community for queer students.

Since the start of 2024, we've said goodbye to $5 fees and hello to free memberships which include all of the perks of previous years. A membership is valid until the 31st of December of the same year, you'll be able to attend various events throughout the year, and non-executive members of UniQ may attend and vote in General Meetings, access minutes from all committee meetings, and become committee members themselves.

Our events, and our Instagram page, Facebook group and mailing list are open to all queer students, their friends, their families and allies.

* "Queer" is a term used to describe the many variations of sexual and romantic attraction, and sex/gender identity, including intersex, transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, asexual, aromantic, fa'afafine, takatapui, lesbian, bisexual and gay. Although it may not be the preferred term for everyone, it is used to challenge binary representations of sexuality, sex, and gender.
