MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE STANDING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2022 AT 5:03PM VIA ZOOM

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE MEETING

sc 86/22  THAT the minutes of the Standing Committee of the Executive held on 16 February 2022 be accepted as a true and correct record.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Services running as usual adhering to Covid rules, preparations to work from home should there be a need.

            Critic staff are working from home owing to a Covid close contact.

            Planet Media working from home.

            Some departments continue to alternate their staff working from the office.

TE ROOPU MĀORI UPDATE

There has been a close contact on the Executive.  TRM checking on students as positive covid cases.

Senior management have thanked Te Roopu Māori and the Otago University Pacific Island Students Association for the Te Kaika vaccination clinic being set up on Campus this week. The cooler weather was blamed for the slow uptake.  It was suggested that an indoor venue be found next time.

NZUSA UPDATES

            Please fill out the online survey asks the NZUSA President.

            There have been online discussions seeing how things are going in general.

The former Education Officer has suggested an autonomous working group be setup.  Caitlin has offered to sit on this committee.

UOPISA FUNDING REQUEST AS PER MOU

As attached. The OUPISA have requested the contribution to attend the annual UOPISA Student leadership forum.

sc 88/22  THAT OUSA approve the payment of $2,000 to University of Otago Pacific Island Students’ Association for 2022 as per their MoU.

GRANTS PANEL APPOINTMENT

            Moved from the Chair

sc89/22 THAT Jamie Scrimgeour be appointed as the Community Representative on the OUSA Grants Panel for 2022.

            It was discussed that the policy/terms of reference could be revisited with more clarity.

sc90/22 THAT Christine Sue be appointed to the OUSA Academic Committee for 2022.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Submission to parliament – both TRM and UOPISA were consulted on this submission.

Pounamu-Waikarama/Taukolo

sc 93/22THAT the OUSA Submission on the ‘Inquiry into learning support for Akonga Māori’

   be ratified and submitted.

Drop for Good sale – this has been held today and tomorrow in the old Unipol building on Anzac Avenue, most of the large furniture items have been sold.  Many items to be sold yet.

Care Packages – there are 1000s of packages to go out to students in isolation.  Jason is setting up a system and will liaise with Melissa, but they need all the help they can get to pack and deliver. Staff are on board helping as well when they can.

Someone has requested that thermometers be available for the packs.

There has been an extra Covid Committee set up with Melissa, Debbie, Sage, Jason, and Michaela from OUSA and University of Otago staff.

International students welcome back to Otago was successful.  There was Orientation Seminars held.

DELEGATION OF POWERS BACK TO THE EXECUTIVE

sc 94/22  THAT the powers of the Standing committee be delegated back to the Executive henceforth.
