MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD IN THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE BULL-PEN ON THURSDAY 8 AUGUST 2024 AT 9:03AM

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE MEETING

            NZUSA – should read

It was agreed that there will be a National Presidents’ Council set up as discussed at the national conference. Te Mana Ākonga, National Disabled Students’ Association and NDSA will be levied in future years.

GUEST: COURSE SPY

Josiah was invited to address the meeting, and he gave a presentation on the course planner software he has been developing over the past 12 months. It has two main parts student course reviews and course planning with a simple interface.

It has the capabilities of downloading the university of Otago evision information to it. It can track information and is easy to score.

This will be accessible and helpful with course advice.

This also includes Auckland University and he hopes it will be expanded to other universities.

Telekalafi arrived at 9.14am

All university colleges are included to rate in this system.

Josiah assured all data is protected and the information used is publicly available.

The university would like to collaborate with OUSA on the data usage and data sharing.

Josiah asked if Course Spy could join a partnership with OUSA?

Could OUSA help will funding this project?

The executive will have further discussions and reschedule another meeting.

EXECUTIVE QUICK ROUND UP

            Each executive member gave a rundown of their week.

UNIVERSITY OTAGO PACIFIC ISLAND STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION UPDATE

Tele’ gave a run through of what their associations have been up to this week.

OUSA UPDATES

            Debbie’s new Executive Assistant, Lucy Hornby started on Monday.

            Clubs and Societies Centre Building – the project has gone out for tender.

            Budget 2025 – further work to be done yet. 

            No health and safety incidents.

NZUSA UPDATE

VUWSA made the decision to give notice to leave NZUSA with immediate effect on 1 August 2024.

Keegan has offered to be the Chair of any future NZUSA meetings to help.

There are debts to be paid, especially with no IRD filing since 2016.

Keegan said perhaps a trust could be set up.

EXECUTIVE BUDGET

Further work needing done before this can be discussed so tabled until the next executive meeting.

DIVISION OF RESIDENTIAL REPRESENTATIVE ROLE DUTIES

Liam offered to manage all campaign meetings. Daniel will assist once he learns the ropes.

Residential meetings – Hanna and Emily will cover.

Sub-Warden meetings – Liam and Emma will cover.

 

ELECTION 2025

A suggestion of a week of forums for the candidates.  The Presidential debate to be held in a bar and one during the day on campus. Ensure forums are live streamed. And prioritise social media to get the advertising out about the Elections.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

            OUPISA/TRM/OUSA get together.  Tele’ is getting onto this.

Pastoral care idea – it has been suggested that a $20 per student be charged to go into an emergency fund for students.  This would be covered by their student loan.

The executive has been asked to gauge if this would be an idea.
