MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD IN THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE BULL-PEN ON THURSDAY 10 OCTOBER 2024 AT  9.02AM

 

PRESENT

Keegan Wells (Chair), Emily Williams, Daniel Leamy, Tara Shepherd, Emma Jackson, Liam White, Stella Lynch, Ibuki Nishida, and Gemella Reynolds-Hatem

The newly elected 2025 Executive were welcomed to the meeting and are invited to all executive meetings to offer a better handover process.

MATTERS ARISING

            The winner of the fun elections results bet was Hanna and the loser was Emma.  Emma has offered to cook for the executive as her punishment.

            Recommendations from the findings –

            Hosts to be more vigilant when holding student parties and notify agencies if holding a large party.

            University of Otago has been given recommendations on limitations of campus watch and should there be more discipline after parties?

            OUSA should provide more education about safe parties it was suggested.

            A further Sophia Charter hui was held yesterday with stakeholders, OUSA President and the University of Otago. Keegan will keep the team updated.

            OUSA will be working on the recommendations.

TE RŌPŪ MĀORI UPDATES

Te Rōpū Māori holding their SGM next week, election 2025 Exec results soon. They are holding a Wānanga to introduce the new executive.

AFFILIATIONS

            It was suggested that all club constitutions be reviewed as the clause Tikanga/Culture has the incorrect meaning and definitions. 

            Climate Clinic Otago – they wish to be affiliated to Victoria University Climate Clinic and be an Otago branch.

            Acronyms in clauses 3.3, 10.4 SFSC to be written in full.

            Women in STEM Otago Society (WISO) – Clause 5.1 needs a review as stated above. They need to focus on their brief and put it out in full in their purpose.

AFFIX THE COMMON SEAL TO MOU WITH OUSA/COURSESPY

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING PLANNING

            Please encourage all students to attend as we require a quorum of at least 100.  A BBQ will be held afterwards as an incentive. A roster will be set up to help with the cooking.

A rally organised by Otago Students for Justice in Palestine calling on the University of Otago to suspend collaborations with Israeli universities and join the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) movement against Israel was held yesterday on campus.

A scuffle broke out between some of the security and a protester trying to enter the Registry building and a pane of glass was broken.  One student was arrested.
