MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE STANDING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 27 SEPTEMBER 2021 AT 11.01AM HELD VIA ZOOM.

 

PRESENT

Michaela Waite-Harvey (Chair), Josh Meikle, Michael Evans, Maya Polaschek, Dushanka Govender, Geraldi Ryan, Sophie Barham, Jack Saunders, Mhairi Mackenzie-Everitt and Melissa Lama.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

            Nothing to report.

OUSA UPDATE

Beerfest – owing to Covid 19 this event will now be held December 4 & 5.  We are reasonably confident that refunds can be managed because of the change.

Budget 2022 – this has now been finalised.

Covid 19 level 2 – good compliance remains.

Staff collective wage bargaining – the Tertiary Education Union (TEU) has finally been in touch so negotiations will commence as soon as possible.

OTAGO UNIVERSITY PACIFIC ISLAND STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION UPDATE

AGM – this was held yesterday with a good turnout.  The 2022 OUPISA Executive were elected as follows:

President: Elisepa Taukolo

Vice President: Tonga Nau

Treasurer: Melania Napa'a

Secretary: Salome Tuineau

PR Officer: Susana Jones

Executive Coordinator: Matthew Manukuo

OUSA wishes to congratulate them for joining OUPISA.

NZUSA UPDATES

            Congress dates are 19-21 November, SJS national meeting 18 November.

            National Council meeting schedules via zoom on 8 October.

BUDGET 2022

As attached. This has been worked on through FESC and explanatory document being finalised.  Debbie was thanked for her work and the lesser deficit. All departments were praised for their effort in the reductions in their areas. Thank you!

FINAL REFERENDUM QUESTIONS

As attached.  These have been out for notice, been to the Mediator.  The pros and cons are being looked over by the wider executive and nearly finalised.

AFFILIATIONS – OTAGO POLYTECHNIC AND OUPI COMMERCE STUDENTS ASSN

              Both deferred to the next meeting as awaiting more information.

EXECUTIVE THIRD QUARTER REPORT

            Moved from the Chair

sc368/21 THAT Melissa Lama’s third quarter report be received, and she be paid her honorarium in the next OUSA payroll cycle.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING OUSA/OUPISA

            As attached.

            Melissa noted this was appreciated by the OUPISA and they gave thanks OUSA.

sc369/21 THAT the OUSA common seal be affixed to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Otago University Pacific Island Association (OUPISA) and Otago University Students’ Association (OUSA).

GENERAL BUSINESS

Mental Health Awareness Week – Maya has set up two whiteboards in the Link and invites the executive and other students to write a wellness message on th post it notes provided and display on the boards.

Generation Vote Otago affiliation to national body – As per email received.

sc370/21 THAT OUSA consents to Generation Vote Otago affiliating with the Generation Vote National Organisation.
