Recreation Tutors Needed for Linoprint, Cooking/fermentation & Boot Camp 2026
About Clubs & Socs and the Recreation Programme:
The Clubs & Societies Centre is the flagship building of OUSA and provides an inclusive and equitable space for all students. Clubs & Socs offers room bookings, $4 lunch, student-led Clubs & Societies, in-house amenities and the Recreation Programme.
The Recreation Programme offers a wide range of engaging activities for tertiary students, including one-off workshops, multi-week courses, day trips, and hands-on classes like cooking and crafts. While most activities are held at our Clubs and Societies building, we also provide specialty classes, such as pottery on the wheel, at off-campus locations.
There are a diverse range of activities for a wide array of people within the Recreation Programme, each catering to 6 – 30 people and beyond. The purpose of the programme is to create community, connection and self-discovery. For most students, coming to university is a huge lifestyle change. By offering a sense of community and new things to try, we can support students transition into uni life in Dunedin.
Expression of Interest: Recreation Programme Tutors
We’re excited to expand our programme and are seeking enthusiastic tutors to share their knowledge and skills with our students.
Classes typically run on weekdays between 5 PM – 9 PM, with occasional daytime or weekend options. We collaborate closely with our tutors to create schedules that suit their availability and teaching style.
We are looking at adding the following workshops/classes to the Semester One Programme:
Linoprint:
We are looking for someone to teach a class of 4-10 persons in our craft space at Clubs and Socs. We will consider both a 5 week course (teaching one night per week) or multiple one off workshops throughout the semester, depending on how the preferences of potential tutors teaching style. The tutor will be expected to teach everything from the safety of the tools – guiding students through to finished products.
Fermentation & Cooking:
In 2026 we will be looking to expand our food-based workshops. We are looking to do a few workshops in the centres kitchen next year. We are flexible on what is made, so long as it is of interest to students and can fit into a 2-3 hour workshop.
We are particularly interested in finding someone to facilitate a fermentation workshop, focusing on things such as kimchi, Kombucha, garlic honey/fermented garlic, pickled vege etc. with students have an interest in having but is out of their price range to get from the store.
We are also interested in cooking workshops focused on things such as dumpling making, pizza making and more budget friendly but delicious dishes for students to learn and take back to the flat.
You must hold a Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate to tutor food-based courses with us.
Boot Camp:
We are looking for someone to come on board and run a boot camp in the OUSA Clubs and Societies Centre Activities Hall using low/no equipment. We will be running the beginner friendly boot camp over 5 weeks (1-2 times a week). The boot camp will be morning based from 8am – 9am to match open hours and give students time to get free breakfast.
It is preferred that you are Personal Trainer Certified or have experience running boot camps in a safe manner.
