MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 17 MAY 2021 AT 8.05AM HELD IN THE OUSA MAIN OFFICE BUILDING, 640 CUMBERLAND STREET, DUNEDIN

 

PRESENT

Michaela Waite-Harvey (Chair), Emily Coyle, Josh Meikle, Dushanka Govender, Geraldi Ryan, Maya Polaschek, Melissa Lama (via zoom), Sophie Barham, Karamea Pēwhairangi, Michael Evans, Jack Saunders and Mhairi Mackenzie Everett.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

            Nothing to report this week.

OUSA UPDATE

Debbie, Jason and Laurence had a good trip to Auckland this week to debrief on the successful Beerfest up there.

UBS site visit recently was good to see the progress.  There are only structural walls inside now.  Testing for asbestos in other areas is being carried out.

The OUSA Lift is progressing and should be fully operational in June.

OTAGO UNIVERSITY PACIFIC ISLAND STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION UPDATE

  • In collaboration with Careers – information for teacher engagement
  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hon Nanaia Mahuta visiting. Covid 19 vaccines for rollout in the Cook Islands later this week.

Mhairi Mackenzie Everett arrived at 8.13am

NZUSA UPDATE

  • AUSA have put their agenda out and the item to leave NZUSA listed.
  • Summary for the pastoral care code received from NZUSA
  • Te Hononga Conference in June 25-27, Rōpu from across the country to meet up, including AUT. 2 representatives from each organisation.

 

AUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR YEAR ENDING 31 DECEMBER 2020

195/21 THAT the Otago University Students’ Association Annual Audited Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2020 be received and presented to the student body in the Referendum being held 1-3 June 2021.

OUSA ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2020

            The Executive wished to note the following omissions from the Annual Report.

Sustainability – Drop for Good, NZUSa, TRM and oupisa not mentioned, Timetable and special consideration omitted, nothing about Clubs Rep and Mental Health rebate.

It was highlighted that a more formal proposal for future Annual Reports of the Association with wider input is being worked on, presently the reports are from one person and not a fair reflection of the year.  Debbie has been working on a plan and will present it to Exec.

  1. Should OUSA lobby for students to have access to the Winter Energy Payment?


 

  1. Should OUSA provide operational and financial support to the ‘Otago University Tutors and Demonstrators Network’ towards their goal of increasing the pay and conditions for tutors and demonstrators?


 

  1. Should OUSA organise student candidates for the 2022 Local Body Elections?

 

 

  1. Should OUSA provide operational and financial support to student candidates for the 2022 Local Body Elections?


 

  1. Should OUSA pay all its contractors at least the living wage?


 

  1. Should the University of Otago have the power to discipline students for their behaviour off-campus in their own private residential flats?

 

 

  1. Should the government allocate Studylink entitlements (Loan Living Costs and Student Allowance) with an expectation that full-time students will also have a part-time job to supplement this payment?

 

 

  1. Should OUSA lobby the University of Otago and the Government for free U by Kotex Applicator Tampons for students?

GENERAL BUSINESS

            Capping Show – don’t forget the executive are attending the show next Wednesday.

Regional Public Transport Plan submission.  Mhairi will send out the draft to the Executive soon.

            Michael meeting this week with Professor Pat Cragg, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor

Emergency Executive meeting – this will be called Thursday to finalise the Pastoral Care submission.
