About OUSA:
OUSA is a not-for-profit organisation that has been proudly serving the students of the University of Otago for over 130 years. We are a passionate group of people providing services to the students while ensuring they have the best experience possible while studying here.

About Clubs & Socs and the Recreation Programme:
The Clubs & Societies Centre is the flagship building of OUSA and provides an inclusive and equitable space for all students. Clubs & Socs offers room bookings, $4 lunch, student-led Clubs & Societies, in-house amenities and the Recreation Programme.
The Recreation Programme offers a wide range of engaging activities for tertiary students, including one-off workshops, multi-week courses, day trips, and hands-on classes like cooking and crafts. While most activities are held at our Clubs and Societies building, we also provide specialty classes, such as pottery on the wheel, at off-campus locations.
There are a diverse range of activities for a wide array of people within the Recreation Programme, each catering to 6 – 30 people and beyond. The purpose of the programme is to create community, connection and self-discovery. For most students, coming to university is a huge lifestyle change. By offering a sense of community and new things to try, we can support students transition into uni life in Dunedin.

We’re excited to expand our programme and are seeking enthusiastic tutors to share their knowledge and skills with our students. Whether you’re an expert in a traditional craft, a culinary technique, or a unique skill, we’d love to hear from you!

Classes typically run on weekdays between 5 PM – 9 PM, with occasional daytime or weekend options. We collaborate closely with our tutors to create schedules that suit their availability and teaching style.

Below are some of the classes we’re particularly interested in offering, but we’re open to other ideas as well:
• Self-Defence
• Lino Cutting and Printmaking
• Ink/Paint Making
• Embroidery
• Dumpling Making
• Fermented and Preserved Foods
• Foraging in Dunedin
• Te Reo Māori
• New Zealand Sign Language
• Japanese
• German

If you’re passionate about teaching and have a skill to share, please get in touch to express your interest. Let’s work together to inspire and engage our student community!

Expressions of interest are to be sent directly to our Recreation Coordinator, Shannon van Rooijen at rpc@ousa.org.nz. Please provide a CV with relevant experience/qualifications and what you would be interested in tutoring.

We will be in touch after January 13th 2025, once we return from our shutdown period over Christmas and New Years.
