About us:
OUSA is a non-for-profit organisation that has been proudly serving the students of the University of Otago for over 130 years. We are a passionate group of people providing services to the students of the University of Otago, ensuring they have the best experience possible while studying here.
OUSA Student Support provides a diverse range of support services to its 20,000 student members at the University of Otago, including academic, flatting, finances, safety, wellbeing support, and Queer Support, as well as running various campaigns and initiatives, Class Reps, training and consultation.
About the role:
We are looking for someone who can take a focus on queer and questioning students at the University of Otago, and provide responsive, solution focused, holistic, and ongoing support, advocacy and social services. As a champion of diversity, you will also manage the Queer Resource Library and be involved in our other initiatives such as Diversity Week, peer support program, and training and professional development.

Our advocates act as case managers when a situation involves different departments and agencies; making sure that the right connections are made and the best outcome for the student is achieved.

You will be joining a committed team of people who genuinely care and are here to make a difference.

About you:
You will need to be a dynamic and adaptable person who isn’t easily phased. You will also need to be able to see the big picture and make the right connections in a particular situation, and at the same time be able to get amongst the nitty gritty.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate will:
• Have a strong background in advocacy and/or social services.
• Have a relevant tertiary qualification required e.g. social work, occupational therapy etc.
• Professional registration or a pathway to obtaining professional registration under HPCAA or SWRA
• Have knowledge of the tertiary education sector, community services, and the student demographic
• Have the ability to work from a bicultural and multicultural perspective, including understanding the various intersectional identities as part of the LGBTQIA+ community
• Be familiar with and has connection to the queer communities in Aotearoa
• Be comfortable in a workplace that uses a support dog

How to apply:
Applications close October 10th and must be emailed to our HR Advisor, Lauren Scrimgeour at jobs@ousa.org.nz. Please include your personalised Cover Letter, CV and the OUSA application form.
